Terms of Service

Agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Vassbrekke AS("we," "us") for use of the PrivyDeck website, hosted dashboard, browser extension, optional home hub agent, and related services (collectively, "PrivyDeck" or the "Service").

By creating an account, installing the extension, or using PrivyDeck, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old (or the higher age of digital consent in your country) and able to form a binding contract. PrivyDeck is for personal, lawful use. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping credentials, passkeys, and recovery codes secure.

The Service

Vassbrekke AS provides privacy tools for personal use, including a privacy score dashboard, Personal Shield (browser extension and privacy DNS guidance), optional home network hub pairing, encrypted vault storage, lockdown profiles, DSAR letter drafting, household plans, and related features described in the product.

• PrivyDeck is a hosted service. Devices and optional home agents connect to servers operated by Vassbrekke AS.
• Features may depend on your plan (Shield free tier, Guardian, Household) and on optional third-party services (payments, email delivery, xAI tips, breach checks, push).
• We may change, improve, or discontinue features with reasonable notice when practical. Material reductions to paid features will be handled fairly under the Subscriptions section.

Accounts and security

• You may sign in with passkeys, recovery codes, and/or supported OAuth or email magic-link providers when enabled.
• You must provide accurate information where required (for example a valid email if you use email sign-in or email digests).
• Notify us promptly at support@privydeck.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
• We may suspend or terminate accounts that threaten security, abuse the Service, or violate these Terms.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use PrivyDeck for illegal activity, fraud, harassment, or to violate others' rights
• Probe, scan, or attack the Service, bypass rate limits, or attempt unauthorized access to other accounts or systems
• Reverse engineer the Service except where mandatory law allows
• Resell, sublicense, or provide the Service as a managed offering to third parties without our written consent
• Upload malware or content you do not have the right to store
• Interfere with other users' enjoyment of the Service
• Use automated scraping of the Service in a way that harms availability (reasonable personal API use of your own account is fine)

Subscriptions and billing

Paid plans (for example Guardian and Household) renew on a recurring basis (typically monthly) until cancelled through the Stripe customer billing portal or by deleting your account. Prices are shown at checkout in the currency displayed by Stripe.

• You authorize Stripe to charge your payment method for the selected plan and applicable taxes.
• Cancel anytime; access to paid features continues until the end of the current paid period unless otherwise stated at checkout.
• Refunds: except where mandatory consumer law requires otherwise, fees are non-refundable for partial periods. Contact support@privydeck.com within 14 days of a charge if you believe there was a billing error; we will review in good faith.
• We may change prices with notice before the next renewal. If you do not agree, cancel before renewal.
• Failed payments may result in downgrade to the free tier after notice or retries by Stripe.

Household plans

Household plans allow a billing owner to invite members (up to the plan limit). Each member has a separate account and encrypted vault. The owner is responsible for billing and for only inviting people who consent to join. Members remain responsible for their own vault passphrases and account security. Removing a member or leaving a household does not transfer vault contents between accounts.

Vault and encryption

Encrypted vault files and labels cannot be recovered if you lose your passphrase. Vassbrekke AS cannot decrypt your vault on your behalf. You are solely responsible for passphrase strength and backups of any material you need outside the vault.

Data requests (company letters)

Letter templates are provided for convenience and are not legal advice. You are responsible for verifying requests, recipients, and legal rights before sending them to companies. We do not send letters on your behalf and are not a law firm.

Browser extension, DNS, and third-party tools

• The Personal Shield extension is licensed for use with your PrivyDeck account under these Terms and store policies.
• Privacy DNS providers, browsers, operating systems, Pi-hole, and other third-party software you install are governed by their own terms; we do not control them.
• Blocking and filtering may break some websites; use allowlists and lockdown modes carefully.
• Optional breach checks, cloud AI tips via xAI, email delivery, and Web Push depend on third-party services and may be unavailable if those services change.

Optional cloud AI tips (xAI)

Cloud AI tracker tips are optional, off by default, and available on Guardian and Household. If you enable them in Settings → Privacy preferences, we send blocked domain names, hit counts, and coarse categories to xAI (Grok) in the United States to generate a short suggestion. Local tips continue without xAI if you leave the feature off or if the call fails.

• Tips are not legal advice and may be incomplete or inaccurate.
• You must not use this feature to submit secrets, passwords, or unnecessary personal data (the product only sends the tracker metadata described in the Privacy Policy).
• xAI’s enterprise terms and privacy policy apply to that processing.
• You can turn the feature off at any time; turning it off stops new calls to xAI.

Intellectual property

PrivyDeck, including software, branding, documentation, and curated content we provide, is owned by Vassbrekke AS or its licensors. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for personal purposes under these Terms. You retain ownership of content you upload (including vault ciphertext and DSAR text). You grant us a limited license to host and process that content solely to provide the Service.

Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, and Your Privacy Rights.

Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, VASSBREKKE AS DISCLAIMS WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not guarantee that blocking will catch every tracker, that breach checks are complete, that the Service will be uninterrupted, or that any particular privacy outcome will be achieved.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vassbrekke AS is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from use of the Service. Our aggregate liability for claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) amounts you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim or (b) USD 50 (or equivalent). Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under mandatory law (including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).

Indemnity

You will defend and indemnify Vassbrekke AS against claims arising from your misuse of the Service, your vault content, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law, to the extent permitted by law.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using PrivyDeck and delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these Terms, risk to the Service or other users, or legal requirements. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends; provisions that by nature should survive (including liability limits, IP ownership, and governing law) survive. Deletion of personal data follows the Privacy Policy.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The "Last updated" date will change when we do. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance where permitted by law. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and delete your account.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Norway, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except that mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence still apply where required by law (including EU/EEA consumer rights). Courts of Norway have non-exclusive jurisdiction, without limiting mandatory consumer venue rights.

General

• If a provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
• These Terms are the entire agreement regarding the Service and supersede prior agreements on the same subject.
• Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
• You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
• Notices may be sent to the email on your account or posted in the Service.
